If you have a guinea pig at home, it is important that you take proper care because all they are quiet domesticated animals they also might need extensive care.   1. Know about its home

Domesticated Guinea pigs need a completely different kind of environment to thrive and live a healthy life. As mentioned above, a lot of species of Guinea pigs have special necessity however, if you are getting normal Guinea pigs you need to get them a solid bottom cage. You will also need to install hay for the bottom, pine or non-toxic paper bedding, food bowl, water bowl or bottle, hide house, chew toys, spinning wheel for activities and some oat grass if possible.   1. Maintain a proper diet

Guinea pigs are devotees of hay, so you will need a lot of hay if you are bringing a guinea pig at home. You need to make it a habit that your guinea pig is eating the hay that is in its food bowl. You should also make sure that you are providing your guinea pig with fresh hay almost every day. Guinea pigs also need a lot of salad based foods and you can also give them a few fruity snacks like mango, papaya and banana once a week. 

If you have other pets at home, it is better that you do not open the cage and let your guinea pig out to roam around the house. If you want to take your guinea pig outside and provide it with a little fresh air, you can use special guinea pig carriers that will help you to carry your guinea pig safely. It is safe to play with them in small animal playpens and also you should keep a watch on their activities within the enclosure.
